Beginner's guide

1. Striking the ball.

When you've chosen your club and taken careful aim, now all you have to do is hit the ball. This is easy with our step-by-step instructions!

Start the swing by clicking on the onscreen button labelled START or press the spacebar.

Click on Power or press the spacebar to set the distance.

Click on Impact or press the spacebar when the cursor reaches the impact zone to hit the ball. If the cursor overshoots the distance you want, you can wait for the cursor to return to the start and try again.

2. Length and Direction.

Perfect shot with optimum power and control. This is called a Pangya.

Any impact to the left or right of the white bar makes you lose power and makes the shot deviate to the left or right (to the left, the ball will curve left, and to the right, the ball will curve right). This is known as a hook or a slice.

Any shot outside the impact zone is a miss, but it will still count as a shot and affect your score.

3. Clubs and putters.

There are 14 clubs in 4 categories. Each category corresponds to a type of situation. Choosing the right club can make all the difference.

Category Name Distance Useful information
Wood 1w 230 These clubs are used for long distances. Their low trajectory means balls can roll further after they land.
2w 210
3w 190
Iron 2i 180 The accuracy of these clubs over medium distances is ideal. However, their "bell curver" trajectory is very sensitive to the wind.
3i 170
4i 160
5i 150
6i 140
7i 130
8i 120
9i 110
Wedge pw 100 These are perfect clubs to extricate yourself from difficult situations like bunkers.
sw 80
Putter pt 10-40 This club is used on the green after approach play.

On the island of Pangya, as with the game of golf, the standard course is a succession of holes in a specific order. Each hole is characterized by a "difficulty" level equivalent to the average number of shots required to put the ball in the hole. This "difficulty" level is called the par and is generally a function of the distance from the starting point to the hole. There are three different pars.

  • Par 3 : A short hole with a distance generally below 200 yards. On average, it takes 3 shots to complete a par 3 hole.
  • Par 4 : Hole of average distance generally between 300 and 500 yards. On average, it takes 4 shots to complete a par 4 hole.
  • Par 5 : The longest holes, generally over 500 yards long. On average it takes 5 shots to reach par.

Each hole has special areas, which may have an effect on your shots.

  • The Tee : the starting position of the hole.
  • Fairway : the ideal spot to place your ball when the green is too far away. The fairway grass is well tended making it easier to hit the ball.
  • Rough : when the ball lands in this untended grassy area, you'll find it trickier to hit the ball correctly and with maximum power.
  • Bunker : when your ball lands in a bunker, the next shot is going to be tricky. You're going to have to play out of a sandy hollow. The sand means you lose a lot of power and accuracy; plus the cursor will move quickly. It is sometimes preferable to join the nearest fairway rather than aim for a faraway green.
  • Out of Bounds (OB): you lose a shot and you return to the point you just played from.
  • Green: you should try and reach the green as quickly as possible as its smooth surface will help you roll the ball toward the hole (putt) with more accuracy.
  • Hole: the hole is located on the green and is the final destination for the ball. Until you get very close the hole is marked by a flag to help you locate it. The aim of the game is to put the ball in the hole using as few shots as possible.

There are two types of currencies used in Pangya, Pangs and Cookies.
Pangs are earned by playing and completing games, the better your game the more pangs you get.

With your Pangs :

  • you will be able to acquire new objects such as magic items or new clothes for your avatar in the In-Game Shop.
  • Pang points are also used as a deciding factor when players' scores are tied.

Cookies is the other vitual currency that you can buy in the Pangya site.

With Cookies you can also acquire items (clothes, characters magic items, special cards). The difference is those items can only be bought with cookies and are not related to the time spent playing.
In order to ensure the best user experience and game balancing, all items in Pang or in Cookie cannot be bought from the start.

Once in a Lounge room you can right click on your character to open or see your own shop.
In Pangya World, you can also trade your items. To use your shop, right click on your own character. First, give a name to your store. You can click on an item, then set the quantity of items you wish to sell and the price you will ask per unit. Other players will then be free to check your shop and - maybe buy something! You will discover the list of sold items when you open your shop after their passage.

Shop

Right click on a friend character to see their shop, don't forget that you must be in a Lounge room to do it.
Just click to select the item you wish to buy. Make sure you have enough money to pay for it.

Make your own potions!

To make your own disposable items, just access Kidy's Magic Box and look at the ingredients. If your level is insufficient to use a recipe, the required level to do so will be displayed. Provided you have the ingredients, you can craft the potions simply by clicking on "Combine". The new item will then appear.

How to play ?

So you're a gamer, right? Surely you must have some Pangs to risk in a game of chance? Then click on Black Satchel on the start page. The caddie asks you to give him 500 Pangs, but he's giving you many things in return. Potions, other consumables and, if you're lucky, even rare items!
